Tax resolution attorney Lance Drury, founder of the Law Firm of Lance R. Drury, and best selling author of “Successonomics” says that the government is slow to change even though the IRS said it would not target innocent citizens in their Civil Asset Seizure program.
St Genevieve, MO, May 27, 2015: Tax resolution attorney Lance Drury, founder of the Law Firm of Lance R. Drury, and best selling author of “Successonomics” posted a new blog on the LANCE DRURY LAW website entitled “Despite Policy Change, IRS Continues Civil Asset Seizures.”
Drury doesn’t seem to be caught off guard by the continued behavior. Drury states, “Surprise, surprise! Even though last year the IRS announced, under pressure from Congress, that it would stop pursuing American businesses that have had no ties to drug dealing, money laundering or other illegal activities in their Civil Asset Seizure program, it seems nothing has really changed.”
He continues, “Recently the IRS turned the life of a small business owner in North Carolina upside down and inside out by seizing $107,000 from his bank account.” Drury provides a brief description of the Civil Asset Seizure law, stating, “I’ve written about the practice of Civil Asset Seizures in the past, but for those of you who may not know, it is a law that gives the government authority to seize money from regular folks, either individuals or businesses simply based on the pattern of cash deposits under $10,000.”
It would appear to be fairly easy to determine if a person is involved in illegal activity by looking at something other than a pattern of deposits. The IRS apparently didn’t do much research, since as Drury points out, “In the particular case in North Carolina, the businessman was advised by a bank teller to keep his deposits just under $10,000.” He adds, “This is exactly the type of behavior that arouses suspicion of illicit activity.”
